My cousin's experience

People have many different beliefs when it comes to the military. My Cousin Crystal, is all for it, she was in the Alabama Army National Guard. Crystal went through basic training and had fun doing it! It sounds crazy but, she says that she loved it! She went to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri for her basic training. Crystal tells everyone that it was extremely hot there, at eleven o'clock in the morning it would be 106 degrees. Her drill sergeants would make Crystal and all of the other soldiers to unzip their jackets. In Missouri, they had to check their boots for spiders and they had to watch for snakes and wild boars. In basic training they were woke up at four. Every morning they did P.T. (physical training). They did P.T. at 4:30 in the morning. After P.T. they’d march or run (what ever the drill sergeants decided to do) to breakfast, where they had to eat as fast as they could while the drill sergeants stood over them. All they were allowed to drink was water or juice. They had the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day. Dinner was different every day but, Crystal said that it was never good. After dinner the soldiers went to bed and prepared to go through the same routine the following day.

That sounds pretty tough. My father was a drill sargent in the Marines at Paris Island in South Carolina in the late fifties. He told stories of it being so hard that soldiers would try to escape (go AWOL) through the alligator infested swamps. It all sounds very cruel but it is really not even though there are probably some abusers of their power. It is preparing the soldier to be ready for the worst of conditions and to survive and to be able to help support the fellow soldiers. I don't like war but it is here and there are soldiers going to really extreme situations. They need that preparation to be able to adapt quickly.

SOUNDS HORRIBLE!!! I could not go through that AT ALL. I can't believe your cousin thinks its fun. She gets plenty of Kudos from me, because I could not do it and I could never think that is fun. You really have to be something special to endure that kind of training, no matter what the length of time is.
